And the great news is memory foam mattresses are the ideal mattress to pair with your adjustable base. Memory foam mattresses bend easily when you lift your head or feet and quickly return to their original structure.
Latex Mattresses
Latex is just as flexible as memory foam, making these mattresses another good option for adjustable beds. Latex offers a slightly-springy feel and doesn't sink in as much as memory foam, so it's a great choice if you're a stomach sleeper or a combination sleeper who moves around throughout the night. Latex is known for its durability, which can sometimes mean a slightly higher price tag, so keep this in mind when making your decision.
Innerspring Mattresses
Do innerspring mattresses work with an adjustable base? Yes and no—allow us to elaborate. Some innerspring mattresses will work beautifully with an adjustable base. But you'll want to select a model with flexible and individually wrapped (or “pocketed”) coils. This will ensure they stay intact as you're elevating your head and/or legs. Other types of coils, like Bonnell or “offset” coils, are interconnected and more rigid, which makes them harder to bend. Over time this can actually wear out the motor on your base.
Hybrid Mattresses
Hybrid mattresses provide the best of both worlds, with a combo of coils and other materials like memory foam. And yes, you can use an adjustable base with most hybrids. Look for individually wrapped (“pocketed”) coils and do your research to ensure the mattress is made with durable, high-quality materials.
